Sepsis mortality rate increases >6% every hour without effective antibiotic treatment.

Yet, despite the life and death urgency, and healthcare cost impacts, current methodologies require 3 days to determine the correct antibiotic.Specific Diagnostics has developed a breakthrough solution to rapidly determine the effective antibiotic treatment for bloodstream and other acute infections.

Used for bloodstream infection Specific’s solution provides results 2 days sooner (1 day vs 3 days).

Importantly, Specific’s solution cost and workflow match current lab practices and cost expectations; the system will be easily deployable.

You will lead the design, development and systems integration of electrical sub-systems including electro-mechanical and electro-optical.

You will own many critical aspects of the company’s developments including electrical system architecture, circuit design, PCBA layout, component selection (displays, power supplies, sensors, etc.), harnesses, assembly, test and debug.Ideally the role would include some firmware development using microcontrollers, such as PIC and ARM programming languages including C, C++, C#, or Python.

This role will drive the validation of concepts via early analysis, prototyping and testing, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure that product requirements are managed.

The role includes working closely with internal and external partners to technically define electro-mechanical designs and ensure that all product and project requirements are met.

This is a hands-on role that will be responsible for designing new products through design verification.YouYou will troubleshoot and make improvements to existing designs, and work closely with other members of the engineering staff to create optimal solutions to difficult electrical, mechanical, software, thermal, and elctro-optical and mechanical control issues.

You will be comfortable and familiar with engineering best practices, concepts and procedures.

Ideally you will have firmware development skills for PIC and ARM microcontrollers using appropriate programming languages.We are looking for someone who is flexible and can respond quickly, energetically, and enthusiastically to changes.

The person in this role should be a strong communicator who is able to lead effectively and work effectively with peers and management alike in a high-paced global environment.You will find this opportunity a great fit if you have:A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience in life science instrumentation or diagnostic/medical device developmentContributed significantly to the design and development of custom PCBAs for at least two life science instruments or diagnostic devices, from feasibility through manufacturingA solid understanding of physics and electrical engineering fundamentalsFive years of experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting of embedded targets (preferably medical instruments)Experience working with microcontroller in an embedded system environmentFamiliar with programming languages: C, C++, C#, PythonExperience in development of medical devices in a regulated industryProficiency with major commercial schematic capture and layout toolsProficiency with integrated circuit simulation and analysis via SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink or similar toolsExperience with design control under ISO 9001/13485 and knowledge of IEC 60601/62304 standardsExperience with analog circuit design (low noise, high bandwidth, low drift, etc.), data acquisition circuits and digital circuitsExperience with selecting and implementation of microcontrollers such as PIC and ARM Must have demonstrated proficiency in PCBA design and development in at least three of the following areas, in the context of life science/biotech/biomedical device development:Motion control systems utilizing stepper and BLDC motors, servos and solenoidsFluidic control systems utilizing pumps, valves, regulators, flow meters, etc.Thermal control systems utilizing TECs and resistive heaters and thermistors/thermocouples/RTDsOptical systems consisting of scanners, detectors (CMOS/CCD/MPPC/PMT) and auto-focusing systems
