We are a small but mighty team of 6 who are all deeply committed to our organizational mission, which is to build a better justice system for all Californians. About the Position We seek a highly-organized, fearless, forward-thinker to be our next Development Officer. The Development Officer will support current development programs with a focus on individual and corporate donors and periodically work with the organization’s new for-profit subsidiary, Cal Bar Affinity, as it markets corporate affinity and insurance programs to California lawyers. This position will: manage the Foundation’s annual development calendar, organize donor cultivation, conduct donor research, process gifts and acknowledgements, maintain donor records, and support the Board of Directors in its fundraising efforts.

Our ideal candidate is someone with significant fund development experience. The position is exempt, full-time, based in San Francisco. ResponsibilitiesManage donor data, gift processing, and regularly report on fundraising progress.Coordinate the planning and implementation of the Foundation’s annual scholarship event, periodic special events, and other donor cultivation events.Research donors and assist with donor cultivation Assist in development of donor communications, including Lawyers are Changemakers, the organization’s donor-centric digital magazine, and other promotional materials and marketing strategies.Draft solicitation and stewardship letters and other donor related correspondence.Provide development support to the foundation’s Board of Directors.Maintain Foundation donor mailing and email lists and manage all donor-related communications.Provide administrative support for annual giving, diversity scholarships, and fellowship fundraising programs.Periodically engage in operational issues related to the Cal Bar Affinity subsidiary such as reviewing marketing materials for corporate affinity and insurance programs or assisting with subsidiary board and volunteer committee meetings. QualificationsPassion for social justice;Minimum 3-5 years experience managing fundraising activities for a non-profit organization or public foundation;A track record of fundraising success;Ability to exercise independent judgment, resourcefulness, and discretion;Meticulous writing and editing skills;Be highly efficient, organized, an excellent time manager, and have superb interpersonal communication skills;High professional standards including follow-through, responsiveness, and ability to receive constructive feedback;Ability to see the big picture and manage practical details working both collaboratively and independently;Experience cultivating social networks and successful interactions with donors;Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), particularly experience doing mail merges and manipulating spreadsheets; andStrong Bloomerang database management skills.Other preferred qualifications: experience with email solicitationsSalary range $60-80K, negotiable and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include health, vision, dental, life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and employee assistance program.
