Embedded Communications/Applications Software Engineer—Wireless IoTThe qualified candidate will work with system engineers and hardware engineers to design and implement algorithms for Vence’s battery powered wireless device application. This is an end device embedded software role that requires the design and implementation of firmware algorithms as part of the device application conforming to Vence’s system, hardware, and product management requirements.

The candidate will be working on a wide variety of embedded software development tasks, including, but not limited to, defining and implementing algorithms to detect and categorize motion using on-board accelerometer, magnetometer, and GPS sensors, developing animal control and management algorithms, as well as enhancing the existing over-the-air application communication protocol.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated and excited by a startup environment with the opportunity to rise to frequent challenges and deliver high quality work while wearing multiple hats.

Required skills:A Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years or Master’s degree and 5+ years of recent, hands-on embedded C programming utilizing battery powered ARM Cortex M0/M3 class microcontrollers.Familiarity with one of the typical ARM build environments: GCC, IAR, Keil.Demonstrable experience in debugging embedded software using GDB, JTAG, SWD, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.Excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to work with geographically disperse teams.Experience in embedded wireless application development in throughput constrained communication environment.

Additional preferred skills:Implementation of accelerometer and magnetometer peripheral applications.GPS based application development proficiency.Designing end device battery powered application firmware for wireless IoT applications.LoRa protocol and network architecture experience.Protocol stack knowledge for one or more of the following wireless technologies: Cellular, RPMA, 802.15.4 protocols, ZigBee, WLAN, Bluetooth.Field experience piloting of wireless IoT systems.Utilization of commonly used version control, configuration management, and issue tracking tools such as Git, SVN, Bugzilla, etc.Proven experience with Linux and Python.
