SALES ENGINEER/ESTIMATOR JOB DESCRIPTIONIn response to customer Request for Quotations (RFQs), the Sales Engineering/Estimator coordinates and prepares the company’s quotation response, incorporating materials, components, subassemblies, labor, outside services and other quote requirements. The Sales Engineering/Estimator may also have their own projects.

This is a great opportunity for someone to work on a wide range of projects and as development for taking on more responsibilities.

This is a hands-on position with extensive interaction with all departments.

This position offers:The opportunity to do intellectually challenging work, particularly in product design, but also trouble shooting, and process/systems designA seat at the table when important decisions are being madeAbove average pay and benefitsA boss that is clear about expectations but doesn’t micro-manageA chance to grow in responsibility with the companyA company that is on a growth trajectory, in a profitable industryA culture of accountability and recognition EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING INDUSTRIES IS HIGHLY DESIREABLE: Plating and metal finishing equipmentAqueous Parts Washers (Conveyor/Screw Drum Types)ConveyorsWater EvaporatorsWaste Water Treatment SystemsExhaust systemsFiltrationReverse OsmosisChemical Injection SystemsRefinery SystemsIon Exchange SystemsProcess PipingPlastic FabricationSteel Structural SkidsCustom Storage TanksDucting, Fans, Scrubbers SALES ESTIMATOR JOB DUTIESDefines needs, clarifies discrepancies and determines the structure of the proposal.Interfaces with customers on design and specification issues as well as for clarifying details in plans and blueprints.Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.Work from detailed drawings, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and verbal or written instructions.Travel to customer or vendor locations.Job walks with customers to determine scope of bid.Attend the Pre-bid meetings.Analyzes quotations for content in addition to preparing complete costs analyses.Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.Completes costing information including generation of costed BOM’s, identifying exceptions and assumptions, and identifying and documenting all unique costs and issues.Prepare cost estimates by analyzing proposals, plans and requirements.Reviews BOMs, blueprints and product specification to accurately determine labor, material, and time requirements.Confer with engineers and other stakeholders on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.Prepare quotes for submission to customers.Maintain detailed and organized record of bid documents, correspondence, and other project specific information.Make sure by any measure necessary that the bid is submitted on time.Prepare the bid letter including clarifications and exclusions.Follow up on estimates and provide feedback concerning market pricing levels.Achieve acceptable sales and margin levels.

Monitor actual vs.

estimated costs and work with estimating supervisor to adjust standards accordingly.Handle customer issues and concerns in a professional and courteous manner that protects the interests of the company and also best satisfies the customer.Responsible for supplier selection, make/buy decisions, interfacing with sales and customer to resolve issues.Research and evaluate subcontractors based on price, quality, service, support, etc.; solicits bid proposals.Documents overall material need, including all codes, brands, and contact information necessary to process orders.Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates.Provide technical assistance to production personnel.Review of process designs and engineering specifications for cost effectiveness and suggestions for alternatives where applicable.Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information to management for purposes such as planning, organizing, scheduling work and selecting vendors or subcontractors.In the event of a project award, review the estimate compared to the contract prior to management signing the contract to make sure the bid and clarifications are reflected in the contract.Prepare the agenda, schedule and conduct the Pre Job Meeting to hand the project from Estimating to Projects.

Insuring all departments are in attendance.Provide consultation to the Project Managers to help them analyze and understand the project and the bid.Make pricing decisions within prescribed limits on a project-to-project basis.Monitors RFQ through process and resolves issues that come up.Must be able to prepare accurate and efficient cost estimates and be able to develop/ maintain relationships with clients while consistently meeting company sales goals.Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.SALES ESTIMATOR QUALIFICATIONS Mechanical Engineer degree a plus or equivalent combination and experience.Adept in mathematics, keen analytical skills, able to manage the high stress of tight deadlines and the major responsibility of accurately forecasting the budget for a project.Exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and work to maintain constructive working relationships.Five year minimum experience and proven track record estimating industrial machinery.Experience in estimating of the following equipment: Plating Lines, Washer Systems, Tanks, Piping, Water Treatment Systems, Pump and Filtration Skids.Must be able to estimate, and develop a detailed Bill of Materials for Skids, Piping, Storage Tanks, Vessels, and Ducting.Knowledge of gear motor, drive racks, bearings, shafts, etc.Knowledge of material fabrication methods such as plasma, laser, and water jet cutting, shearing, forming, and rolling equipment.Experience estimating tanks, structures, enclosures, and ducting from thin plate and sheet metal.Knowledge of Microsoft Word.Knowledge of Microsoft Excel.Ability to learn product/ application knowledgeAbility to make decisions involving complex sales/ profit relationshipsAbility to read drawingsDemonstrated computer skillsAbility to prioritize work assignments and to operate with continually changing priority needsAbility to bid projects turnkey with multiple disciplines of work (e.g.

Pipefitter, Millwright, welder, fabricator).Ability to work in fast paced and sometimes high stress environment.Ability to successfully be part of team and work towards common goals.High attention to detail, excellent math skills, self-starter, can adapt to new situations easily, ethical, confident, and trustworthy.Understands how to scrub and verify subcontract and vendor quotes.Strong writing skills – formulate execution plans, creates schedules (MS Projects, etc.) and related bid deliverables.Understands pre-planning, how to sequence work scopes and plan field execution strategies during the bid cycle,Capable of conceptual estimating, quantity take-offs, using independent judgement in calculating quantities, costs and schedules.Ability to bid Lump Sum, Time and Materials, Fixed Fee/Cost Reimbursable and other types of contracts.Ability to provide the highest levels of customer service (internal and external).Wide comprehension of Fabrication.Excellent oral and written communication skillsStrong organization skills and ability to multi-taskAbility to meet tight deadlinesWHAT WE OFFER
