Infection Preventionist

DescriptionJOB SUMMARYThe Infection Preventionist will support a culture of continuous performance improvement and participate in the implementation of evidence-based practices designed to ensure safety, prevent infections and support the attainment of outstanding clinical outcomes.

Participates in the development and execution of quality initiatives related to infection prevention and control, outbreaks for patients and staff and ongoing reporting (internal and external).Supports medical staff, hospital administration, hospital departments, and committees in executing plans for improvement.

Conducts surveillance to prevent and reduce infection rates throughout the organization.

Conducts reporting of communicable diseases and public reporting of infections as required by state law and regulatory guidelines.

Reports to the Infection Prevention Specialist.GENERAL REQUIREMENTSAdheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelinesPerforms all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organizationPerforms other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and proceduresMaintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.WORKING CONDITIONSGeneral environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.Long-distance or air travel as needed
