Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries

This is a Full-time position in Santa Cruz, CA posted December 13, 2019.

Reporting to the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for advancing the mission and goals of FSCPL.

FSCPL is a 501(c) (3) not for profit corporation that works in partnership with the Santa Cruz Public Libraries to create stronger neighborhoods and a culturally-enriched county though accessible and diverse library programs.

Incorporated in 1979, FSCPL now consists of five community-based Chapters and nearly 1,000 annual donors and has provided leadership that has resulted in the successful passage of Measure B (1996) providing millions of dollars in operating funds; Measure R (2008) creating a permanent ¼ cent sales tax for library operations; and the successful passage of Measure S (2016) providing over $64 million for new construction or remodeling of ten branch libraries.

As it launches a major capital campaign to complement public funding from Measure S, the Board is looking for a skilled Executive Director to lead FSCPL, develop and execute a countywide vision for 21st century volunteer engagement for public library service, and promote our value to elected officials and the broader community.Examples of Duties  Manages the day-to-day operations of the FSCPL  Recommends and implements board policy and organization goals  Develops and manages annual budget  Strengthens, implements, and manages the FSCPL donor program  Ensures compliance with state, federal and local regulations  Serves as the spokesperson for the FSCPL  Supports board recruitment and development  Maintains effective communication with and among Chapters and community stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements  Bachelors’ degree from an accredited university;  2 years of senior management experience in a nonprofit organization or similar organization;  Excellent analytical and organization skills;  Evidence of strong communication skills including the effective use of social media;  Supervision of staff and volunteers;  Evidence of successfully working with a Board of Directors;  Knowledge of best practices in fundraising.

Desirable Experience  Developing partnerships with community-based organizations and elected officials;  Familiarity with county-wide organizations, foundations, and business in Santa Cruz;  Working in or with public libraries;  Grant writing and administration;  Fundraising and donor management;  Capital campaigns.
